I have a Springfield Champion that I'm not real happy with. The quality is poor at best. The feed ramp on the barrel looked like they used a butter knife to machine it. It took me hours to polish it and I still didn't get all the machine marks out. It seems to shoot hard ball ok but hollow points catch on the machine marks still.

The stock dual spring guide rod is a piece of junk just waiting to break. I've been looking for an aftermarket full length guide rod for it but havent found one yet. Anybody know where to get one? I guess I'll buy a guide rod for a goverment model and modify it myself if I have to.

I'll be able to fix it but for the money I could have bought another Colt. Live and learn I guess. Anyone else have a Champion? What do you think of it? :cry:

I have one of the earlier Champion models. It is stainless and had a beavertail safety but no novak sights. It has kind of high 3 dot sights,standard thumb safety and solid trigger. It has a one piece spring.

I have shot it a good bit and it pretty much shoots everything I stick in it. Fit and finish is good and the feed ramp is like a mirror.

I don't know if the qualith went down on the newer ones or maybe they had a period of bad quality control.

Have one of the newer models, eats everything I feed it. Have put about 1500 rounds thru it. Sorry that you are having problems with yours.

Found a guide rod for it. Made a big difference in the way it handles at the range. It still doesn't like hollow points. It is 100% reliable with hardball. The hollow points I have trouble with are Winchester 230g, but they run through my government model with no problems. I guess I need to try some different ammo in the Springfield maybe? Do any of you guys have any recommendations on reliable ammo? Looking for HPs that match the profile of hardball a little better. I think the problem may be that the Winchesters have a sharp edge between the jacket and the lead where they meet.
