Remington 870 Express Slug

I was curious to hear your guys thoughts on the Remington 870 Express slug with cantilever. I am thinking of one in 20 gauge I live in a shotgun unit and have a smoothbore smith Slug gun but have heard great things about the new 20 gauge slugs. Thanks for your help.

My wife bought me this shot gun(Remington 870 slugger 20ga.) in 2010 for our 25th annaversy.  The fellow at the gun shop uses the very same shot gun and recommended I use Remington buck hammers 2 3/4in. I installed a Bushnell dusk to dawn 1.5 X 7 power scope on it. Took less than five shots to zero it after doint a stump jumper bore sight job.
In two years it has killed one 8pt. buck (2010) at a paced 53 yards scrambling the lungs and taking out a bit of the heart too. the next buck was a spike at a paced 68 yards and it also scrambled the lungs and took a chunk out of the heart.
I am very happy I chose this shot gun as the recoil is light and has done all I could ask of it. the buck hammer slugs I buy from a gun shop are just $8.00 a box of five. Much cheaper than many on the market. the gun shop employee who told me to use the 2 3/4 said his didn't shoot well with the 3 inch stuff. On that I can not comment but with what the 2 3/4 inch ones have did for me I aint switching.

I've had a 12 since they first come out and used it with imp cly choke for slugs 2 years and then got a Hastings rifled barrel. I epoxyed the barrel in and it can clover leaf at 100 with Lightfield IDS. Unlike some other slug guns out there it never has had a FTF, load, or eject problem. alleyyooper your right about the recoil mine seems to recoil less than my big heavy USH off the bench anyways.

Glad to hear you have had great lethal results. In my unit they have been clear cutting everything now and the distances I used to shoot are changing as there are far more fast openings. My old smooth bore has never failed me and it has killed at least five deer that I can think of and always had great effect I shot a nice forkhorn this year at 30yds never seen a deer go down that fast in my life. Al were those two deer you killed bang flops? Thanks for all the insight much appreciated.

Only bang flob guns for deer I own is a Remington 700 and a Rugar 77 tang safty in 243.
The deer hit with the buckhammers from the 870 went about 15 feet with a blood trail as wide as a 4 lane hiway.

Mother in law has her Christmas feast on the 24th. I was out of town then but was told to come over on the 25th.
Fried chicken, Honey baked ham, mashed taters & gravey, mixed veggies, nibblets corn, and a bunch of odds and ends like olives and cut up veggie tray. Had some german cocholate cake, mixed berry pie, apple pie and a few hay stacks. Came home with a tummy bloated bad. Ya great Christmas feast even if Mom called therm left overs.
