Benelli Composite Question : Stock Adjustment
« on: December 19, 2011, 04:18:49 AM »
Hi,
I got an odd question that came up.

An acquaintance has a Benelli Nova.
He want's to make it more ' Cast On ' to fit him.
(He's lefty and doesn't mind the ejection port)

Could he carefully heat the wrist of the stock/receiver unit, apply some pressure and bend or set the stock with some cast?

Or would he be left with a weakened stock at best or a molten pile of smoking black plastic at worst?

Is there steel re-enforcement under the composite in the wrist?

What do you think?

I think it's a horrible idea.

People who don't know any better spend way too much time worrying about shotgun patterns and stocks and whatever.  The problem is that those things are done slowly, under controlled circumstances.  The test on a shotgun is to go shoot it and see if what you're shooting at breaks or falls.  Don't worry about taking careful aim, point and shoot.  If what you aim ait goes down, the gun works for you.  If it doesn't, it's time to sell.

Stock fitting is perhaps moderately appropriate when you've reached the level of seriously competetive shooter.  For 99% of guys it's hype.

I see what you mean but I don't know; I think if bending one of those things is as simple as wrapping a heating pad around the wrist for 10 minutes, and it fits better, why not.

It will hurt the gun, hurt the value should he sell, and not help his shooting.  Plus, I don't think it's possible.
