can somebody tell me what case JD at SSK uses for his 7-30 JDJ -THANKS Bruce and is it the basic fireform routine

The 7mm JDJ was on the 225 winchester I believe but the 7mm JDJ#2 was on the 307 winchester brass. But I could be wrong.

yea the 7mmJDJ is based on the 225 case but is the 7-30 JDJ the same animal or something different

Might just be an improved 7-30 Waters I guess, best bet would be to go get the info from the horses mouth so to say and email JD. Sure he would tell you. www.sskindustries.com

The 7-30 JDJ is nothing but a blown out 7-30 waters. Just shoot a 7-30 waters in the barrel and it blows it out to a 7-30 JDJ. It appears to be a fancy name for 7-30 waters improved. I have a pistol barrel in this caliber. Ed

I don't have chrony to tell me the difference. I acquired this barrel from dholepuncher about 45 days ago and haven't even shot it yet. SSK would probably have to answer the difference in them. I am just changing most of my barrels over to customs and I like SSK. The deer I took in early fall was with a 12 inch Contender 7-30 waters. I did not get good bullet expansion with 130 GR Sierra SSP bullet on this one. Shot went straight thru (did take out both lungs) but deer ran 50-75 yds with very little blood trail. Hopefully extra feet/sec will make a difference. Ed

ED HAVE YOU TRIED NOSLER BALLISTIC TIPS they have worked good for me I have a 6.5 JDJ IN A 12'' BBL. AND USE THE 120 GR, ALTHOUGH for the 7-30 in a carbine that i'm getting everyone is telling me to go with the 140 gr. b. tip I think that will give good penetration but maybe not much expansion , the 120gr might be a little light and maybe to much expansion and not enough penetration so it seems like a trade off , I think it best to go with good penetration and and good lung shots -they have to go down
