Check the website  and see what you can find wrong. Email contact doesn't work the way we planned and will need to be repaired.  The photo album format will be changed in couple days also.

www.SouthAfricanCannons.org

Try searching for the website using the terms; miniature cannon, desktop cannon, SAMCC, shooting a cannon, shooting a cannon without sights,  black powder, cannons South African Cannons and South African Miniature Cannon Club.  I don't know if the crawlers have found it yet...but it helps if you look.

Sounds like a Browser function not website...what browser are you using?  IE7? Mozilla? Chrome?

Double D.,  I just checked the Home page and found a few things.   You may want to consider making the following changes:

Spelling:  “you” should be ‘your’ in the 5th paragraph near the end of that line.

In the 2nd paragraph you have this phrase:  “interesting stories tossed just in for fun.”  It would sound a lot better to write it this way:  “interesting stories tossed in just for fun.”

Repeating the same phrase in a single sentence is considered poor form in writing.  In the third paragraph, you may want to consider substituting “aim a cannon equipped this way” for the phrase,   “aim a cannon without sights.”  This way you avoid the “without sights” phrase repetition.

In the last paragraph a comma after the word ‘shoot’ would be nice.

I will take a look at the History and other sections and send you some suggestions off-line.  I like the graphics and the stories a lot.

This is what I am looking for. The fixes won't show up for a couple of days.  I want to cllect a bunch of them and them open the website once for all the corrections.

Thanks

Excellent site!  I spent a while looking for SAMCC info way back when and didn't turn up a lot.

The plans section only has plans for one tube in it for now, no carriage.

In "Competition" second paragraph scoring is misspelled - scoringe.

In "Shooting Position" second paragraph, the phrase -European cannon shooter shot from a chair. Is 'shot' supposed to be 'shoots' or " cannon shooters shoot from a chair"?
In the third paragraph - "You need some way to solidly anchor you head" -is the 'you' supposed to be 'your'?
Below that - Sight 'Alingment' is misspelled - should be "Alignment".

In "Shooting Miniature Cannons without sight" -  should 'sight' be "sights"?
In the first sentence: "At first glance it would appear that the model cannon has no sights and no means aiming. I think there should be a "of" between 'means' and 'aiming'.
In the second sentence: "Traditional sights consist of front sight element " there should be a "a" between 'of' and 'front'.

Hope this helps.

It looks like an interesting sight. I'll look at it more Wednesday evening.

bing hasn't found it yet.
google found the reference to it in there british militaria forum.

Interesting to see who I know in Iowa posting on the bmf.

When my father wrote (he published MANY books and articles) the books and articles were proof read 3 times.

One proofreading was for content - did it make sense.

Another proofreading was for grammer.

The third proofreading was done backwards - for spelling.

This was repeated after the galley proofs were returned just before publication.

Off to work - will look at it in detail tonight.

Douglas,

You use the phrase "desk top model cannons" in several instances, and to me those terms designate nonfunctional models only intended for display. This may just be my personal take on it, but I prefer 'miniature' (which you do also use), or reduced scale reproductions, working scale models, et cetera.

Thanks guys you  are very helpful and encouraging.

This class was/is about form and function, not writing.  Learn the mechanics.  We were given the option of using Lorem Ipsum text.  It just seemed like a lot of wasted effort to me  do that.  So while studying and writing code, I was also writing text.  I am getting graded on the code  and not the text, so a lot of time wasn't spent of proof reading. Yesterday I had the option of uploading the code to the instructor for the first phase of the grade, or going  live so he could see it and learning how to do an upload using filezilla.  I choose learning.

The instructor told us he is going find three things in our work that he wants debugged and changed and that will be the second phase of the grade.  He found the broken email page right off so that is one.  He doesn't like the photo album layout, but I knew he wouldn't, he expressed himself very clearly what he did like.  I don't know what he will come up with for the third.

The email problem was a double lucky accident for him to find.  GoDaddy.com had not activated the email function in my server yet so it wouldn't function and the email address the  provided was different that what I had in code. GoDaddy lost points, not me on that one

Thanks again and keep looking!

How about "desk top sized model cannons" ? I agree saying desk top model makes it sound like a non functioning model, but just saying miniature looses the overall size reference.

I have a 1/5 scale 24 pounder on top of my sewing machine (and that's a lot smaller than a desk.)   ;D

DD,
It's used on the 'Home Page' in the second sentence, and 'Shooting A Small Cannon' in the first sentence.

The word "miniature" when used by the modelling community usually refers to one third scale and under, so it actually gives me a better size reference than "desk top model" does. When I think of a desk top model cannon my mind conjures up an image of a small barrelled (10-inch or under) decorator model.

It looks like an interesting sight. I'll look at it more Wednesday evening.

At the bottom of Shooting Miniature Cannons Without Sights, there is this sentence: There is nothing on load procedures here on this sight. "sight" should be 'site'.

The title "Sight adjust changing point of impact" is ambiguous. 'adjust' should probably be "adjustment,", or maybe - "Sight adjusting, changing point of impact".

In Sight Adjustment in the second sentence - "Concentrate on proper sight align and sight picture" should the 'align' be "alignment".

I loved the history page. Very informative.

Okay guys the changes have been up loaded.  Email is working now and the Photo album display has been changed.  Take a look.

A couple of other issues have cropped up.  In some version of Mozilla unicode is popping up.  That can be fixed with changing code in the metatag section.

Crash!

Basic college student error.  We wrote the new code for the photo album and email  on the computer at school.  It did not get saved on to my computer.  This morning when I uploaded the corrections, uploaded the old album over the new....I am going to try and rebuild everything this week and see what happens.  Words allowed on this website  don't adequately describe my feelings.
