"Civil War Signal Cannon great condition"
« on: November 19, 2011, 12:49:40 PM »
Listed as such on flea bay.  Have you guys seen it?  Is this an authuentic model or someone's interpretation.  Bronze barrel on a iron cariage with a recoil track on a 360 degree rotating base.  No maker is given & no makings show in the pictures.  There's what looks like plywood under the metal base so a maker's mark might be concealed.
I'm assuming this is Civil War which is not in my time period.  Please pardon my lack of correct terminology.  Perhaps those with knowledge of such mounts can tell us more.
Seller estimates the caliber at .75 & vent is drilled.

This is a vary thinly disguised pointer post and pointer post go in classifieds and must meet the criteria for posting there.

If you wish to discuss this cannon, then start discussing.

No discussion  and I am going to delete this post in the next day or so...

Interesting model although I question a bronze barrel on a seacoast carriage.  Price is starting to exceed my interest.

I find myself wanting to justify why I can't live without it...
I feel it's niche is as a scale miniature...  makes no sence to me otherwise.  In some ways it looks quite detailed with side plate nuts / rivels (imitation) yet the trunion caps are not separate, just assembled by bringing the carriage halves together... I'm guessing this (trunion caps) would not be correct  & the builder has used flat head screws in assembly which I likewise suspect.
It is "in the spirit of"...   I'm still conflicted...

I can't help much with ID but a banded James gun comes to mind ? I like it alot what will be your highest bid ? ;D  Nah you are safe from me ...I have too many juggling acts going on now !
But as for justifing it ..... Jezz you want it right ? Bingo it's Justified

Conflicted ? sure you are at least he's not offering two of them . Thats were I would be conflicted should I buy one ....sure ,but two ,now I'd be conficted .

Believe me If I score an auction I've been following I'll be conflicted whether to show it to my wife ???? :o   but as for buying it and you have a money to spare I'd have to say go for it .

You'll be in trouble if Gulfcoast see's it . He has an unnatural attraction to barbet type "go around guns" ;D

Good Luck Bidding
