question on Ruger 22/45
« on: November 14, 2011, 04:04:32 AM »
Condidering a ruger 22/45 target model with the short barrel.  I have a question though.  I sometimes use .22 shorts around the house for plinking and pest control, due their quiet nature and low power.  I know that they won't reliably cycle the action; however, my question is this.  Will they half-way cycle the action, causing the next shell to jam?  I don't mind racking the slide by hand one shot at a time, but on my old .22 this would throw the next, unused shell on the ground and load the third shell in the magazine.  This was due to the fact that the first bullet would halfway cycle the action, enough to eject the 1st round but not enough to fully load the next round. So, anyone with experience firing shorts or CB shorts in a ruger semi please let me know.

I have done it lots of times, even with my rifles.  My experience with these underpowered rounds is that they need to be manually fed individually into the breach/action area and then have to be manually cleared by pulling the slide/bolt back.  I have never had one that pulled the bolt back enough to add another round.  I try to use the revolver with these rounds over the Ruger semi-auto.  They do make good pest control if you hit what you are aiming at. :)
