first blood with the wicked ridge.
« on: November 10, 2011, 12:40:35 PM »
shot a big doe that went 152 dressed tonight. SHot was about 25 hards right behind the shoulder. Nice thing there was tracking snow but it probably wasnt needed arrow went right through and there was blood spray out of both sides so big it was like walking down a blood sidewalk. It went about 40 yards and died.

Congrates, what broad head are you using? I had the same kind of blood trail when I got my doe with my invader last year , I'm using the aftershock archery 125 grain tremors . Hey, did you change out your red dot scope yet? I'm gonna wait till spring to change mine out, but I'm also gonna turn my arrows around and use the insert as a flat nock and put in new 100 grain brass inserts for the added weight it should bring my arrow weight with broad head to about 550 grains.

old fashion 125 thunderheads. Ive used them for over 20 years in all my bows and never found them lacking. Still have the red dot. Like you ill probably change it out next year. Moneys a little tight right now. My dad shot another deer with it this year. Arrow blew right though again. Why do you feel you need the extra weight? I seem to be getting excellent penetration just as it is.

I just wanted the extra weight for the punch through power on the off chance of a bad hit and striking a bone and still getting a exit wound, plus on another forum I read that it helps the bow be more quiet and puts less wear and tear on the limbs. Also if I tried my hand at hunting something with a tougher hide it would help.

you might be on to something with the bow wear. I know wicked ridge doesnt recomend carbon arrows or broadheads lighter then 125 grain for use because there hard on limbs.

You can get carbon arrows with brass inserts that will add quite a bit of weight and improve your FOC for the xbow.  Contact Danny Miller at Horizontal Archery.  740-483-2312.  He is very knowledgeable and of great help.

most does we shoot are in the 100 lb range. A 120 lb doe is considered a big one to me but ive shot a few 150 or better.
