45-70 Walking at 100yrds
« on: November 09, 2011, 03:34:07 AM »
Fired my brand new barrel, 45-70 23" Contender Carbine from the bench last weekend with disappointing results, within 6 rounds I zeroed a key hole 1" high at 30 yards, let it cool than cleaned with Rem. 40X. The problems occurred at 100 yards, first two shots were small adjustments up and right, next shot 5" high right, did not touch the scope and next shot 4" low left and so on... Seemed to be walking all over the paper on its own.
Mounts are tight, Scope is a Simmons Atec, took it off my 270 where it worked just fine for the past few years.
Ammo is 325 gr Lever Revolution Flex Tip.
Just a little disappointing, I am going to try some different Ammo/bullet before switching out the (Long Eye Relief) scope.

I found out from my last Appleseed You have to have a good cheek weld and place your head in the same place with a scope to get good results.
That is going to be hard with a T/C 45-70 without a black eye.

I went to peep sights on my 45-70.
