I did a similar thing when a shop offered me a price I could not refuse... Only thing was I decided to shoot it before making a final decision on how it shot... It sounds like its the same as yours, only nickle plated.

Damn thing shot nearly in one hole at 100 yards!!! I decided to sell my HD Varmint 223 barrel and keep the new one!!!!

Maybe you should think about shooting it first too... just sayin. ;)

Like you CW, I never get rid of anything until I've worked with it a bit.  I bought my .223 1 in 9 new and it climbed out of the box shooting.  That one is a keeper.  I've had the same luck with my .30-30 and 7.62x39.  Both bought new.  I bore sighted them, zeroed them and they dump bullet on bullet holding a group as well as I can shoot.  When I get a flyer, I know it before the bullet strikes the target.

 ;)  Yup, That was MY STORY too...

 The barrel I ended up selling was prettier, longer, fatter, newer and in better condition ... but the "new" one shot better... In my book, accuracy trumps all, there are many many beautiful guns, but only a truly accurate gun is truly beautiful.

Does it shoot as good as the pic I posted... (Thats a 1/4" fgroup your looking at... from LESS than a $200 rifle!!)
 When it comes to accuracy, there is almost always room for improvement. All I am saying, is try it and see..maybe, just maybe it will out shoot what you have. With out shooting it, you could let a gem slip right thru your fingers. It will sell just as well in a couple weeks as it would today. That's all, I'm just passing on a wee bit of wisdom...

As I like to say....Just sayin'.... ::)

the  gun i bought for the reciever i have not shot the guy i bought it from said it shoots 55 grn bullets real good. the one i already had shoots 1'' or better groups at 100 yards but the 62 grn bullets key hole like crazy its a keeper i like to shoot paper and i won't keep a inaccurate gun no fun all my handi's have been accurate but the 357 would not shoot 357's sent it back to the factory 4 weeks ago they put a new barrel on it crossing my finger's. :D

Sounds like my traded off barrel. was a Varmint, that is it was heavy and longer than std barrels. It would shoot my handloads at or under an inch pretty consistantly. But this new one was less then half that! So far two different loadings will shoot UNDER 1/2" at 100 yards...
I made the buyer happy with a good looking, desireable, accurate barrel and satisfied myself at the same time with a MORE accurate one.

i thought about cuting the barrel to 16'' but i remembered my contender with a short barrel in same caliber way to much muzzle blast. ;D
