Marlin made rifles are best?

 Are Marlin manufactured rifles better?   I was informed that rifles made by Marlin back in the mid 90's are better made, more accurate, than previous New England production.  Then I was told by the same person that since Marlin got bought out, Handi Rifles are near junk!  All this is new to me!   However, I will say my '96 Micro Groove 30-30 is lots more accurate than the .243 and .308 I had, both of these being made the last five years.

I will support that statement for Marlins. The new Remlins have had some issues. Can't speak for the handis. I know I've sold a boatload of em this year and last and we've had good results. But not sure when they were made

Demented,

I hope I am understanding you query correctly.  Marlin had nothing to do with the Handi Rifle production until they bought H&R 1871 in November of 2000.
 
All Handi Rifles produced up to the 2000 sale date were manufactured by New England Firearms and/or H&R 1871.

Funny thing about mine, it doesn't matter who made them, I can make them inaccurate....  ::)
I have some new and some from the early 80s and the only issue I have had with them is some sticking ejectors and a 7-08 that wouldn't group and now looking back it was due to not trying the right powder...  thejanitor

I would think that it would be more a matter of who made the barrels for the Handis. 

The caliber is also a consideration, with most 30-30's and 45-70's it's almost a given that their going to be accurate.  I have two of each and I'm very happy with them. 

For some reason, like thejanitor, I'm still having problems with my 7-08, it groups great at 50 yards, when I move it out to 100, it gives me headaches.  I'm still working on it though, changing scopes, powder, heads, and brands of ammo.  It's just a matter of time until, I find the right combo.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

my 444 shot good... my 35 remington great groups at 100 yards. most shots touching...
 
cant wait to shoot my daughter's new (old) 30-30...

 I was more or less quoting what this counter guy at a gunshop was telling me.  Seems his facts were mostly fiction, made up to impress folks like me that don't know better.  I do have a question...If Marlin did just buy H&R in 2000, how can my 1996 make have Micro Groove rifling?  Guess I may have a '96 rifle with newer barrel, only thing that makes sense.  I'm very impressed with my 30-30, whatever its lineage, it will shoot anything, reloads with different powders, two different factory loads well.

I also had a H&R shotgun marked Marlin, made way before 2000.  Larry

I think you are right about your rifle having a replacement barrel of later (Marlin) manufacture.

          During the nineties,  Marlin used to do a lot of the rifling for H&R.  At that time, H&R was building over a thousand rifles & 800 shotguns a day. H & R could not keep up with the rifling operation so contracted Marlin to do a lot of H & R's rifling overload. So it is possible to have micro groove barrels from before the H & R buy out by Marlin.
