223 Ultra scores and scores again! Pics added
« on: November 02, 2011, 02:47:13 PM »
Been cleaning up my work shop and hauling the junk back on my farm in a big ditch we use as a dump.
As my wife and I were heading back with a load to dump I spotted something about 200yds ahead of us in the tall grass.
It was standing there looking at us straight on.
I stopped the truck and asked my wife, is that a small deer out there?
It didn't really look like one.
I grabbed the binos and took a quick look.
Nope, it's a coyote.
I reached behind the seat and got out my 223 ultra and stuck a Ultramax 52gr BTHP in it.
My wife said it was headed to the left around the edge of the hill.
I eased the truck forward about 50yds and she spotted him off to my left.
(She still has good eyes)!
I stopped the truck and stuck the gun out the window of the open door using my left hand to steady both the door and the gun.
He was standing broadside with his head turned looking right at us at about 90yds.
I squeezed off one round and he was done.
My wife asked if I had got him.
I said didn't you hear the thump.
When we got to him there was a massive hole in his neck just above where I was aiming.
This gun rides in a pouch behind the seat (along with a Winchester camo 1300 12ga 3" mag with #4 buck) and hasn't been out in over a year (except to wipe it down with gun oil every few months).
It has a Bushnell 4x12x40 mounted on it.
Nice to know it still is on target after all the stuff a farm truck goes through each day.

Another load to the dump today and another coyotee with the 223 Ultra.
Two in two days.
This one was about 170yds quartering away.
I had to rush the shot because he was starting to trot away.
Laid the Ultra accross the roof of the truck and took a quick shot.
Hit him in the neck and it came out his lower jaw.
Another female, a little larger than the other.
Sorry anout the bad pics.
They were done with my phone.
