Bore sizes for the cartridges are different.  Perhaps a special die set to use the small diameter bullets but I'd hardly think it worth the effort..  After all the advantage of the Contender is the relatively easy to add barrels...

Gunnut69, I guess I need to inquire on bore diameter.  It was my understanding that the bore diameters are supposed to be the same (though I know that slugging may reveal some variation).

I shoot .452 cast in my 1911, .45 LC Vaqueros and two rifles.   All are quite accurate.  I've shot some .454 cast and it leaves quite a lot of leading.

The older .45 Colt revolvers ran larger and took .454 bullets to be accurate.  Is it .454 barrels that you are referring to?
Well now, that was exhilirating!

Bore sizes are the same in those. Both are .452", but the 45 ACP barrels are relatively collectable. You'd be better off selling it and buying one in 45 Colt.

I have a 45 ACP barrel in mind..the Colt barrels have chokes, ribs, and all that crap.  I think I'll prob. end up w/a 454 Casull..I can shoot Colts outta that if I want..

I suppose they might both be 452 as I've never measured..  The 45acp shoots jacketed bullets 451 inch in diameter, the 45 colt uses 452 diameter jacketed bullets.  In lead there's even a 454(some of the older colt revolvers had oversize throats)..  I seriously doubt TC made a bore that much oversized for the 45acp..  In anycase a normal reamer probably wouldn't be vey happy.  The 45 acp and 45 colt both use different diameter pilots.  Funny how that is, TC must use special reamers.

Not all the Colts have the ribs, etc. I have a 10" octagon with regular sights and no .410 chamber.

The .454 Casull is too much of a good thing for a Contender, ok for an Encore.  You can get plain .45 Colt barrels for the Contender; I got a 12" bull stainless from Ed's Contenders not too long ago.  Shoots great with hot .45 Colt loads which are a lot less than .454 Casull loads.
