7mm08 extractor problem
« on: October 29, 2011, 08:31:00 PM »
When loading my 7mm08, the extractor rides on the cartridge to the extent that when the breech is closed you can hear the extractor click into  the rim groove. It bears hard enough that when the gun is opened ,fired or not, the extractor is pressing upwards hard enough that you can't remove the cartridge from the barrel. If you pry it past the base of the cartridge the shell will become removable but with a lot of drag against half  its length .  Suggestions?    Ken

Must be something stuck in there. It's an easy job to disassemble and clean with pin punches.

Take a look at the diagram on page 4; http://www.hr1871.com/documents/manuals/HR_NEF_HANDI_RIFLE_MANUAL.pdf
Punch out pins # 7 and 11 (only the rear #7 needs to come out) then clean the debris out of there and re assemble.

Straighten the leaf spring a little so it has slightly less arch so it puts less pressure on the extractor claw.  ;)
