I have a BSA 2.5x on my TALO Trapper .357 that I reamed to max. Haven't had any problems with it.

I sent my frame in for a .357 barrel about a month ago.   It took around 11 days from start to finish.   My daughter killed her first deer today with the .357 mag. barrel.   I reamed my barrel to maxi but I am still working out some kinks with the .357 maxi.   I have a 3-9 Bushnell on the gin.

Simmons makes a 4x diamond something scope that many here love. Mine is an older 4x simmons shotgun scope and it mounts right ahead of the hammer so you do not need a spur and you can mount it lower since it doesn't need hammer clearance. It takes a little getting used to since you see everything downrange around the scope with a scope picture center above the gun, but it is light weight and very accurate for our 44 mag. Would be fine for a .357 too.  They show up used now and then here in the optics classifieds.

trapper57 - What do you mean by moderately priced?  If you can swing $100, Natchez has a Nikon Omega 1.65-5x36 (Camo) scope with a BDC for $99.95.  It will work for the .357.  Just so you know the BDC is supposedly designed for BP rifles.
If you need to go lower, buy the Bushnell Banner 1-4x32 scope with circle x reticle (Matte) for $66.95, if you want higher power get the same scope in 3-3x40 for $67.95.
Natchez also carries Simmons if that's what you want.  Go to:

or like thejanitor said, try the Optics classifieds.

I've had excellent luck using the Centerpoint 2-7x32 from Walmart for $68. These are excellent scopes that a lot of guys are using on springer air rifles. They hold up well.

I like Simmons Prodiamond 4x.  Light, compact scope that looks really good and inexpensive from Natchez.  Several other GBO  members recommend it also.  Sometimes they have refurbs for even less.

I discovered 'elite deal seeker gunstuff' lists alot of forums, where there's much used stuff, if that's what you want.
