Sir, would not try to talk you into or out of one.John Gallagher cut a .45acp Tracker from 4" back to 3" and put a high viz front sight on it. I had him cut it back to get rid of the ports. The way I carry it the 4" barrel length didn't matter. I had cut a Charter in 44 special from 3" back to 2" and the 2" barrel guns are easy to carry. Being past 60 a barrel that is 4" is easier for me to point shoot. So when I had the 4" cut to get rid of the ports 3" was my choice. As for the caliber a 230 grain hollow point out of those short guns has some serious impact. Also found out that removing the ports didn't help the flash it produces after dark. Fireworks are fireworks with short revolvers.

Thanks for the reply. A favorite .45ACP loading of mine uses .45 Auto Rim data and employs a 250-255 gr. LSWC and W231 powder. It's a NICE 'thumper'.

Sir, I own several of the Taurus Trackers in .45acp. Only one works with the auto rim ammo. It was modified and not all can be. I am a Taurus fan, but  if you want to use auto rim ammo your gun will probably be a Smith. The
Taurus guns I have with the full moon clips work great. The spacing at the cylinder is too tight on the Trackers for the auto rim to fit. Being 5 instead of 6 shot the hand wants to hit the auto rim rim and screw up the timing  if you open the face to allow for the thicker rim.
