7mm-08 / &x30 Waters / 308???
« on: January 10, 2004, 12:14:10 PM »
I just bought an Encore 209x50 black powder. I had a 7x30 Waters in a super 14 contender. I am thinking about a rifle barrell for the Encore in 7mm08. My wife has a 308 model 100 Winchester. Tell me what you think about the 7mm08 over the 7x30 and 308. Thanks.

Hey Rev.,  I have had all 3.  Out to 200 yds I dont think the killing difference on deer is worth mentioning.  But as long as you HAVE mentioned it  :) I would go with either the 7m-08 or the 308.  Bullet choice is much better whether you shoot factory or reload.  Velocity is higher also, although I dont know if it is that big of a consideration; guess it depends on where and how you hunt.  The only neat thing about going with the 7-30 waters is that you would only need one bullet to shoot out of both pistol and rifle.  Kind of a matched set.
