Range report.....new shootin irons
« on: January 10, 2004, 11:19:29 AM »
 Well it got up to almost 20 today so LongWinters and I headed for the range.

I did some swapping lately and have a new Weatherby Mark V stainless .270(24"barrel) with a Kahles 3X9X42 TDS scope and a Winchester Model 70 Classic Sporter in 7mm STW(26"barrel) with a Zeiss Conquest aboard.
Both my new rifles shot extremely well, sub 1" groups at 100 yds. The last three shots from my Weatherby .270 with 130gr Nosler ballistic tips were within 1/2".The Winchester Classic Mod. 70 in 7MM STW did not kick bad at all....I shot 20 rounds with no unpleasantries.

Load #1 .270 140gr Hornady Interlock SP..54.4 gr of 4831...0.90 " group (rec book accuracy load)

Load #2 .270 140gr Hornady Interlock SP..55.0 gr of 4831...1.15 " group

Load #3 .270 130gr Nosler Ballistic Tip     ..49.5 gr of 4831...0.55" group (rec book accuracy load)

7MM STW ,,,Rem factory 140gr PtdSP Corelokt ...best 3 shot group= 0.85"

Both rifles show great potential and I am very pleased  :-D ....The Winchester is new in the box but has been in the shop for over a year I suppose the long 26" barrel would not be attractive up here in the big woods. The fit and finish on this one is flawless. Must be a pre-Browning product. The trigger is tolerable but I may have to work on the dept.
