Yeppers on weather and these 65 year old bones only crawl so fast over the steep roof.  Having hard time finding help.  Have on weekends but with supposedly so many people out of work,  you wouldnt believe  it would be hard to find someone to roof, even roofers busy.  In early part of summer roofers were crying for work, now they are booked thru next spring... oh well, nice to hear geese coming thru, last nite was on roof with headlamp and geese came thru flying across the bright moon, NEAT!

I did my roof this summer while it was hot and that was not easy either. I could have probably got help but I'm to fussy about the work so did almost all of it myself. My son did help me tear off the old shingles on the front side of the house and lay the paper back, which is the biggest area. But the garage, porch and back of the house I did by myself. Also carried every bundle of new shingles up the ladder and nailed everyone of them down.
My younger brother ask if I was trying to show off or just being bull headed. I just didn't want anyone falling off my roof because it's steep. Didn't want to pay a roofer when I know how to do it myself. Maybe to pride full, cheap, and bull headed???
I will say I shouldn't have to do the roof again in my life time. After sweating out several pounds and hurting everywhere for a few days. If it needs replacing again someone else is doing it.
3/4s done on the front when this was taken and it's steeper than it looks in the pic. My wife actually painted the fence yesterday while the weather is still nice. That job I refused to do.

My house and garage are small by most of todays standards. Because the house is layed out in what I guess they call cape cod, it's only 14sq. The back porch is about 4sq and the garage was 6sq. Hardly big by any standard. That late June, early July heat was what killed me. I could only stay on the roof till like 10:00 am then the shingles just got to ghooie to move around on even with the jacks. Because of the doormers I was also cutting on both ends and making sure the tins were right. Just a lot of heat and putzing that made things move slower. First time I did the roof myself back in 1989 I hand nailed the whole thing. This time I had my son's roofing gun which really moved things along. Would have been nice if his days off and mine lined up so he could have helped use his nail gun. Oh well I just plugged away at it piece by piece till it was done. Saved a couple hundred dollars hauling the old shingles to the land fill my self too, instead of renting a dumpster.
