New 250 savage rifle
« on: October 03, 2011, 03:42:51 AM »
I want another 250 savage rifle. Bolt action with a heavy barrel in a slim lightweight wood stock. Should I buy a factory rifle or have one built?

Regards,

Nothing going to replace that 250 you had but you may be able to build something you be happy with.   From your other post you enjoyed redoing the stock.  Good Luck

When you say "heavy barrel" do you mean a varmint weight or magnum weight? I don't believe that you will find a factory bolt gun with either. Find yourself a Stevens 200 or a Savage 10 on a used rack and build what you want. I have used three 200's as donors and all three have made excellent shooters. My recipe for your bolt gun is as follows:
Stevens 200 action
Shilen chrome-moly 24" barrel ( weight of choice)
SharpShooter Supply Competition trigger
Boyd's Laminated stock in color of choice
Scope of choice
I've done this rifle in 250/3000 Ackley 40*.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

It is good to see the .250 is still appreciated.  It is my favorite caliber along with the .22-250.  Build what you want.

I see ruger is chambering the #1a in it right now as a limited run. I sure wish the wallet was a bit fatter as that would sure make a nice mate to my 257 roberts!
