More questions on a new Encore
« on: January 08, 2004, 02:01:32 PM »
 I'm back,
In my quest for a new Encore,I have come up with some problems. :? After checking with most of the gun dealers in my area as well as the new Cabaelas store,I have found out that I cant purchase the gun with the calibur I want(7mm-08) as a whole gun! In order to get this gun I must first buy one that is in another calibur, then buy a 7mm-08 barrel. Not only that, but, if I want a rifle barrel(not the heavy barrel)in this cal.It only comes with barrel sights, and not drilled and tapped for a scope mount.
It seems to me that if I want this gun,I will have to buy it piece by piece.Has anyone else gone this route?
I do want to get a muzzy barrel at some time, maybe I should just buy one set up with a muzzy, then buy the fore-end and barrel I need  :? .Any Ideas? Also have found a pretty wide price range for this gun.At Cabela's they wanted 559.00 for the muzzy model and at a nearby gun shop they had the same gun for 499.00.
E-bay has alot of barrels and misc parts for Encore's but I havent totaled up what it will cost me that way. Thanks for your help fella's :D PARR

Try Eds contenders and if he cant help you  belive it or not try Wall mart ! If you go into wall mart and ask for the gun book at the sporting goods counter you may be suprised what they offer . That is were I bought my encore stainless heavy barrel .223 and at the best price I could find.

Check out T/C's web site. I am sure they catalog the Encore 7mm-08 as a complete gun. If not, work with a dealer. I know the wholesalers catalog frames, barrels, and forearms. I am sure that a dealer can order what you want for no more $ than buying a complete gun.

ridgerunner, that's what I did was go with the ML barrel on my original purchase, since I wanted to have a custom centerfire barrel built with special features anyhow.

As soon as my custom barrel comes in, I'm gonna send off my ML barrel and have the QLA cut off and the barrel recrowned, and have some smoke vents cut into the end of the barrel.

The other route you might want to take is buying your new Encore in a small caliber like a 22, or 223, or maybe even buying the turkey model with a shotgun barrel. Just depends on what kind of shooting you plan on doing with it.

As far as drill and tapped for scope mounts , They are all drill and taped. It uses the same holes as the rear sight and there are 2 more holes hidden underneath the sight. Those 4 holes are for a weaver style rail.  KN

KN,
I think this is different for a rifle barrel as the rear sights sit ahead of the placement for the scope. Is true for pistol scopes though.
And for PARR, I'd tell them bastards if they want my money, then they'll just have to pull off the other barrel and stick the 7mm08 on it. nuff said

I have a couple of rifle barrels and they all came drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Had the little filler screws in the holes. I have never seen one that wasn't tapped, Always been told that all factory barrels were drilled and tapped. Some one correct me if I'm wrong.  KN

KN,
I believe you are right on that, Maybe the guy PARR is dealing with is a lame brain. I was only commenting on the placement of scopemount holes vs sight holes on rifle barrels.

The only rifle barrels that I have heard of that were not drilled and tapped were barrels by the custom shops. Any dealer worth his salt would gladly swap out a barrel for you and give you the package price. (unless it is a custom barrel). They do in my area.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I bought my Encore as a complete gun in 7mm-08 in Arpil 2002. I would have where you are ordering it from, check again.

I boyght an Encore with the 209-50 barrel and then just a frame with a pistlo grip on it. I had that action for well over a year befor I desided what Barrel to get for it. I have 3 Barrels from Bullberry and they all shoot real well. I hear Virgina Valley barrels are excellant also. These custom barrels cost alittle more, but you can order them any way you want in any lenth. I think the quality of the custom barrels justifys the extra cost. Just my 2 cents worth.

If I was you, I would buy a  a 50 caliber muzzleloader Encore complete rifle and then I would order a  7mm-08 barrel and forend from Bullberry Works. But thats just me. That would be the way I would go. I don't believe you will go wrong by going this way.  Fred at Bullberry will make you a great barrel. Good luck.

:D rp7 Thanks for the advise on the bull barrel.I definately do want a muzzy barrel for this gun,but I am really buying it for my 12 year old son.He will be hunting this year for the first time and I didnt want to do the usual and get him a 30-30 lever. We can both use this gun and have fun with different barrels LATER.Considering the fact that there is a youth stock also available too.I will see how the gun fits him when the weather gets warmer and we get our hands on the gun.It is a good caliber for him to shoot and I hope he enjoys it.Thanks to everyone for your help    Pa RR
