New Pardner 12 ga.
« on: September 15, 2011, 04:24:35 PM »
Apparently a circa 2005 New England Pardner SB1 12 ga. 3-1/2" chamber.  According to the gun shop, it came from the factory with the blacked out wood and matte finish receiver.  I was not impressed with the buckshot offerings in 20 ga.  That's the one thing just driving me nuts.  I am supposed to go swamp/grass hunting with my brother tomorrow and nothing available except #4 buck here and little of that and it was over 9 bucks a box.  I picked up this one I've been watching the price on for a couple years and took it out with 3" magnum 000 and perfect pattern out to 50 yards.  GTG for tomorrow now.  Think after season's over, I might send it in and have a rifled slug barrel fitted also or buy one here and try it out.  ;)

Early Deer Gun Season?  I wondered about the "black" shotguns that Bud's has on their website.  Is it painted?

Yah, here in Michigan, they have a 4 day antlerless deer season Sept 15-19.  There's still a lot of cover and greenery, so it's pretty tough hunting, but we gave it a shot.  We'll be going back out tomorrow.  We saw some just before dark, as they are still diurnal, but it's supposed to frost tonight or get close.  If it does, that usually gets them moving some.  8)  Yep, it appears to be some kind of not too tough paint on wood.  Slightest tap can chip it, but easy to cover with a sharpie...  I was considering stripping it and repainting with something a bit more durable and then a satin clear coat. or something, but it's working for now.  ;)

Oh and I did find it on H&R's website now, under turkey guns and is a model SB1-F10 and the tube it came with is Extra Full.  I went today and bought a std. Mossberg Accu-choke in the Improved Cylinder flavor and it fits perfect, so I'm going to pick up the others as time goes along.  I'll be getting the flush ones that are steel and Hevi rated, for waterfowl hunting etc.  8)

I took a doe a few years ago with my Pardner / 3" 00 buck in the MI LAS.  Had it out today for the EAS but saw nothing.

3 1/2"?  OUCH!

Good luck w/ your hunt.

Yah, I'm not even sure if they make any buckshot loads in 3.5", but I tried 3" Remington 000 magnums, but only one box and had terrific groups and did just what I wanted on paper.  Had only 2 left though and when a deer finally broke cover for me yesterday at a full run, I lead her too much with the first shot and second shot went off just as a big tree came between me and she.  8(  Oh well, might get out tomorrow night quick, but looking like I'll save this tag for regular season.  Tuesday night though, finally getting out for squirrely's if not raining.  I was sooooo tempted to try buckshot on some this weekend though.  hehe  I did keep my wits though, but hope for a great day out with my Model 60 on Tuesday.  ;)
