I am brand new to trapping.  I don't know anything.  I have had success in the past with "rabbit gums" and live traps, catching 'coons and groundhogs who were murdering my garden.  Other than that......no experience.
Another problem is i live in western North Carolina.  i understand the Furs around here are not worth much.  I would like to make a little money, but mostly just get out.  I am unemployed right now, and i plan to deer hunt,  fish, and trap all I can.
what species should i start on? I am thinking 'coon and muskrat.I can trap in urban places with a live trap and catch so many 'coons you wouldn't believe.  We had to get rid of some at a school one time, they were killing the ag department's chickens.  the mountain men never had it so good.  But what do you guys who ave been at it a long time say? I want to trap with live traps close to town, so no ones's kitty gets hrt, but what should i do on a real trap line, out in the wild, as far as leg hold traps.  Also, I am not opposed to trapping rabbits to eat.  easier than shooting them.

contact your state trapping association and find yourself a mentor in the association.  This will lessen your learning curve immensely and  aquaint you with your states trapping laws.  Possibly your state has a rondezvous coming up and you can attend and learn.  Good Luck tact your state
