Ruger 44 Carbine: Cor-Bon ammo?
« on: January 05, 2004, 08:16:52 AM »
Hi All...the Ruger manual recommends 44 Mag ammo that is 1.61"...the 260-grain Cor-Bon "bonded core hollow point" bullets that I'm considering using are 1.65" overall length...will they work in this gun, that is feed reliably, etc?  Thanks for any help...

I would suggest taking the Deerfield magazine to a gunstore and asking the clerk to insert 4 rounds.

Well, they don't sell that ammo locally...i'm going to have to order it, and I didn't want the wasted shipping fee if they don't work...about the only available locally are the 240-gr standard jacketed bullets...

Well,
Looking in the "Shooting Times" and "American Rifleman" articles on the Deerfield, it doesn't look like the chances of using ammo exceeding the length limit is too good. For what it's worth, I had good luck with the Speer 270 grain Gold Dot load.
