I am looking for anyones openion of the Ruger M-77 in the .338 caliber.
I have been looing for an Elk gun and have just been offered one.
What is the accuracy and recoil like?

I love my 338. Accuracy is top notch. The recoil is like a 12 gauge.

I helped a young man zero one in at the range this fall....a laminated stainless model. I was pretty impressed....it was a Thumper though!! :roll:

I think you'll be impressed how easy the new .300 WSM shoots with a 180gr Partition at over 3000 fps! No worse than a 7MM Mag.

jonr go for it I've got a ruger m-77 in 338 win mag and love it whacked a great muley buck last year one shot one kill and hopfully a moose in 04 and as always it goes bear hunting with me. LOVE THAT GUN, LOVE THAT CALIBER.

I have one, wears a elite 4000, if I was down to one rifle this would be it. Now I have heard a lot of ironmen on this board say that the recoil never phases them with a 338 mag. I doubt they go to the range and work up loads for varmints on up, up to 50rnds of firing the 338, while trading off with other cal. rifles. I put a muzzel brake on it and its a dream to shoot, like 243 in recoil.

I love the Ruger M77 in any caliber, but only problem with Ruger is that they only chamber .338s in the Winchester magnum and not the .338 RUM.
