What kind of wood is that and what size block do you think I need to start out with for an Encore 3x3 or 4x4. Might buy a turning blank and give it a try. Thanks for any help. You have some of the best looking grips i've ever seen, you are a master. What kind of oil dou you use to finish your grips.

The above wood is Honey Bastogne Walnut. Finish is several coats Lin Seed Oil. If I want a deep high gloss finish I use Formbys High Gloss Tung Oil.
The next three pics below are dark Bastonge Walnut, highly figured.
For a grip I want at the least 2-1/4"X3"X6-1/2". If it is to have a deep thumbrest like above then I want the block 2-1/2" thick. The forearm no less than 2"X2" by 1" longer than the finished piece is to be. Wider wood if making a target forearm. All inletting is completed before shaping. If it dosent fit the frame and barrel theres no use shaping. Forearm and grip should bolt up at this point.
Once everthing fits you cut your two demensional shapes.
Then comes the fun part. As said before I use no duplicator, all shaping is done by hand eye balling the piece. Mounted to the frame is a Baron Grip fully shaped.
Having a beautiful Elf for a helper really helps. Watch those hands go!!!!
