Amazing Grace
« on: August 17, 2011, 04:05:47 PM »
This is the way this song should always sound not like a funeral march. After all God's Grace should bring joy to your heart a smile to your face.

I disagree to my ears that's the worst I've ever heard of it. To each his own. It needs to be sung with meaning as if you've got it in your soul. They made it sound like a honky tonk tune.

YEP. I couldn't listen to all of that. Gospel music should be sung with reverance and respect for the one who wrote it. A gospel song is a message to God from the one who writes it, nobody should have the right to change that.  POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I don't think I got half way thru before I had to turn it off. I'm not sure there is a right or wrong way for it to be sung and it's a personal choice but for me that version don't cut it.

My apologies gentlemen I did not mean to offend.
I was brought up on CW, hillbilly and honkytonk music to me if it don't make ya want to tap your toes and put some feel good in your soul.
Well I just thought it was a joyful noise to make unto the Lord.

Oh yeah that was done right well except for when they really got loud that one time. I love the bag pipes with Amazing Grace. Once long ago a group called the Royal Scottish Drum and bag piple band I think came out with a record of Amazing Grace. It went very high on the charts and is still perhaps the best rendition I've ever heard. It was all music as I recall but really well done.

HOOKER. I wasn't offended, I just believe that Gospel music should be sung with reverence and respect to the author. I heard a guy squall out I'll fly away once, it was horrible. Mom said, it's not as bad as he butchers Amazing Grace. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

II divo really does have a good version. Hooker, as far as your version? I like country music and grew up on the likes of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. As far as this reverence thing someone brought up, I would say horse poop on that one. If that version of Amazin Grace trips your spiritual trigger, then so be it. If everyone sung every gospel song the same way, we would only need one group of singesr to sing all gospel songs, and that would get real old.
Just because one or two doesn't like your version doesn't make it any less meaningful to you, or someone else. I like spotted horses, but some say Apps are ugly and no good. I still like, and don't care what they think. When your listenin to gospel music, your supposed to be listenin to the words, not judgin the talent. To each his own. It's a great song with a great message.

  I won't criticize another's view of this not only most popular hymn..but according to a recent TV special, most popular song in all the world.
  To fully appreciate the profundity of the song, one should know the story behind it.  John Newton, the writer of the song, was a very sinful and lost man most of his life.  He lived a sad life, eventually becoming captain of a slave transporting ship.  At one point he found himself captured and held as a slave in N Africa.
  Eventually, he "saw the light", became saved and wrote this song as a reflection of his own experience..when he speaks of how God will "save a WRETCH like me".. he was entirely candid and sincere.
  He became a pastor of a rural church in Olny, England (which still operates) and aided Rev William Wilberforce in his efforts to outlaw slavery in England.  Surely, for a man who considered himself doomed, the grace God provided "the hour I first believed" was truly amazing to John Newton..and millions of others..

       Here is a very well done version (IMO);

   Finally, for GB ..bagpipes in a touching "tribute" video;

It’s not the presentation but the message that counts, Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.  Oh what a blessing!
