Powderman,
Thanks for all those great songs!
One time my daddy and I went to one of the all night singings in the "Deep dark piney woods of the Sabine forest"! It was at a church really many miles back in the bottom lands bordering the Sabine River. The church was the only sign of civilization for many miles. This was in the fall of the year and a little nippy! When we arrived at the church we walked over to where some guys had a big black caulderon boiling on a fire and just as we walked up they were pouring something out of big paper bag into the coffee that was boiling in the caulderon!
I asked them what they were pouring into the coffee and they said that it was crushed egg shells!! I asked them what was that suppose to do? They said it would cause the coffee drowns to settle to the bottom. Must have worked because they gave me a big cup of coffee and it was clean as a whistle!
I then grabbed a donut( Home made) and started to "socialize" with some of the
girls I knew that were there.
One of these girls was a great gospel piano player and my daddy would ask her to come and play the piano if he was leading a song or if he was singing with a quartet! One of the other girls had great alto voice and she could really swing out in songs that had alto leads.
Anyway we left and headed back to Shreveport at daybreak! Had a great time and good singing!!
