Rem 7400 likes 125 Nosler BT's
« on: August 13, 2011, 11:38:29 AM »
My Savage 110  loved these and since I have them I figured I better see if my 7400 would shoot them since the Sav 110 went down the road for a Sav 11 .223 Rem.   Loaded up 10 with 56.5gr IMR4350  and went out to put them on paper.    Got a nice 1.56"  5 shot group at 100 yards so the question was answered these BT's shoot very well in the Rem 7400!  ;D  Not as good as the Sav 110 but for the Rem 7400 I'll take it!  The Sav 110 would put these in a .5" or less at 100 yards!

If you have never shot a deer with that 125 BT just wait. Your load should have you in the ball park of between 2900 and 3000 fps which is perfect for that bullet. It kills deer like a lightening bolt has struck them. BANG FLOP. I have been using the 125 BT on deer for a number of years in my 308 Win at 3000 fps and my 30X47 HBR at 2850 fps in rifles and my T/C Contender 14" barrel 30-30AI pistol at 2670 fps. I have never had a deer take over 3 jumps after taking one to the shoulder and most drop in their tracks.

It's an '06 and yes I was thinking the same thing this should be a great deer load.  The only thing I shot with these 125 bt's before was a yote at 250 plus yards and it completely removed a front leg at the shoulder!  Even though this rifle is no where's near as accurate as my Sav 110 - didn't expect it to be being a semi-auto . I do expect around 1-1.5" groups for hunting as a long shot is always on the table out here in ID and thats my min requirement for a rifle I hunt with smaller is alway better.  And this bullet gives me enough energy out to 300-325 yards which would be a long shot where I hunt. ;D

ive seen several autos be sub moa.i have a older 7400 243 late 80s model and i can shoot 5 shots in one big hole at 100 yards using factory ammo then i have a 2004 7400 270 that you cant shoot a 3 inch group at 100 yards with any load or ammo good luck hunting with your gun it should do a good job if you do yours and hold it

Had the same problem with mine when I first got it!  You need to look real hard at the forearm contacting the barrel!  Relieve all the contact points! I went from 3-4 MOA  down to 1-1.5 MOA.  ;D

The most contact was at the attachment point-the metal cap and the plastic washer under it. Also look at and pay attention when you tighen the retaining nut. When you tighten it you can twist the forearm to create contact points. I had contact points on the front and rear with the wood. Just relieved them enough not to touch. Also where the metal heat sheild under the top of the forearm needed to be relieved.  By design there was way to many contact areas! Unfortunately you can't get rid of them all, but by minimizing them as much as possible  it greatly helps in the group sizes.

I use Varget under the Nosler 125BT in my 30.06, book max. My rifle is a 700, but if you resize properly, you can work up to max with that 7400, only if you need too.

I know I used to run them about 3200 ish in my Sav 110!  They would cut a Yote in two all the way out to 250 yards plus! :o
