17HMR VS Body armor

I was out shooting with friends and brought along some out of date pannels to use as target practice. we shot the normal bullits from a pistol, even these well used pannels stopped 9mm, 357, 44, 45, and 45 colt. even a 250 grain 45 colt shot from a carbine. it stopped them all. then we shot it with a 17HMR from a single six.
 

 
the entry is the pinhole at the point of the blade.
 

 
this is the exit hole aprox 22 caliber. I was very suprised that it went through! I thought it would break up and be caught.
 
we also shot a few rifle rounds at them and most blew right through. just a cool bit of trivia. DR

From my pocket of course! it was a fathersday gift from a few years back. I already knew the vest pannels would stand up to pistol rounds, and that the rifle rounds would get through but I was very suprised at the 17s. DR

was it FMJ or something else?  this could be serious for cops.

This was discussed shortly after the HMR came out over on Rimfire Central.  It realy is old news.  There hasn't seemed to be a rash of drug lords and gang bangers switching to rimfire's.
