Ballistics for .308
« on: August 02, 2011, 03:09:46 AM »
I was curious where I might find ballistics for a 15 inch barrel chambered in .308.  I just finished paying my buddy for his .308 encore handgun.  Thanks.

According to My Nosler reloading book you could expect.

125 grain bullet...2700-2800fps
150 grain bullet...2550-2700fps
165 grain bullet...2300-2400fps

Hodgen Powders also has free reloading data on there website that has a pistol section.

Resue,
Haven't even shot the gun yet.  So I have not settled on a bullet yet.  I probably would not shoot anything bigger than 150 grain.  The gun will mainly be used on whitetail.

For Whitetail deer I would use the 125 Nosler ballistic tip. I shoot it in a 308 win 3000 fps and 30X47 HBR 2850 fps rifles and a 14" 30-30AI Contender 2670 fps and it really hammers deer in their tracks. It has less felt recoil than 150 gr bullets also. It is a very accurate bullet also. 46 grs IMR 4895 with the 125 gr BT is very accurate in most 308 Win.

I like the 150gr. win right out of the box. I am not reloading now, but I like these out to 150m. I don't know what there doing over the chronograph. This set of shots was off a my camera tripod (so no chronograph) with a sandbag on it and was standing. There was some wind but it didn't look like it did much to the 150s. I didn't shoot much this day it was bad hot! And holding the encore on a sandbag one handed with wet hands. I was starting to have my hand slipping (I have new gloves now made by carhart with rubber palms and fingers and cloth backside)

I know you were asking about the Ballistics but I just wanted to show you that you can do fair with factory ammo. I'm sure when I get back to reloading the groups will get smaller. I may not know the fps but I know they will make a water bottle go away.......lol

First chance I get after the heat spell I will clock some of my out of the box through my 15" and post it for you......
