R700 - factory twist (1/9.125") with heavies?
« on: July 29, 2011, 05:02:50 AM »
Tossing around the idea of picking up a 700 with a 9 1/8" twist (possibly AI'ing it, but undecided).

Anyone running 90 - 105gr pills successfully in this twist barrel?  Mostly concerned  w/  87-95 grainers

Another option is a standard 1/10" twist barrel. Any experience with 90+ gr. bullets w/ this either?

I have only shot lightweight varmint bullets in my previous 243's
Thanks!

I have had 243's and 6MM's in several twist rates. 1 in 12 worked just fine with bullets in the 75-90 gr. range, the 85 gr. Sierra BTHP being extremely accurate. In 1 in 10 twist rifles I had no problem stabilizing the 105 gr. Speer spitzer, a great bullet by the way. The several 1 in 9 twist rifles I have owned shot bullets of 75 grs to 105 grain bullets, everything I tried worked nicely.
