Double rifle caliber

Been thinking about the best calibers for a DR.    Yeah I know thinking can be a bad thing & expensive at times. It seems like a lot are in 30/06 but I think a DR in 30/30 or 303 british might even be more usefull.
The 9.3x74R is popular as well but why not the american 375 winchester...? Thoughts?

  I'm not much of one cartridge for woods and another for open area's...  Why not just carry a gun chambered with a cartridge that will do it all???
 
  I like my 8x57jrs as it's one of the "do it all" cartridges, and in a break open gun i want a "rimmed" cartridges, as my jrs is.  I taken everything from moose and bear on down to smaller animals with it loaded with 200NP's at 2,550fps and it has worked VERY good on everything i've shot with it.
 
  I had a DR in 375 Win., to me it's not a do it all cartridge, so it's gone...  I guess for the lower 48, i could live with the 7x65R just fine...  But i'm not unhappy with my jrs at all.

I agree with DM. There isn't a '1 caliber' that will do it all.
My DR's range from 9.2X72R to a 300 H&H and several bigger, 9.3X74R, 450 NE, 500/450 500 Express, 577/500 Express. They all have their place.
 
 They 30-30 and the 375 Win. would be fine for deer, but I'd hesitate to use them at a black bear or larger.

It seems like a lot are in 30/06

I'd love to find a good double rifle in 30-06, but the only ones I've seen out there are the ones Remington was importing, and those are still way too much money for what they are.

I wouldn't go after a B.B. around here with a 30-30. They have their bigger brown cousins around and a 30-30 isn't nearly enough for them. There's no such thing as 'overkill'! Dead is Dead...
 
If I were in Wisconsin sitting in a tree stand maybe...
 
 Those Russian Biakal DR's in 30-06 are rough but fixable. They do shoot great after you regulate the barrels, whittle down the comb, and hone the triggers.
Even with these mods these are a heck of a buy for a DR.

I have 1 of the Baikals in 45-70. It is a great shooter and easy to regulate with the adjustable barrel tension system. 45-70 willl handle anything in North America.

It'll work fine at DR pressures as long as you do your job and you stay away from big brown fuzzy critters.

do you use any combo guns?  Do you hunt alone or with a partner? 
 
I remember DM talking about hunting bear, I beleive he was guiding and carried a shotgun as back up for the hunter.  BUT I maybe wrong.

I have a drilling but seldom use it.
 When I go out in the woods it's usually a remote area. There are others on the boat but we hunt seperately. [It's always the other guy that makes the noise! ]

  All you need is a Valmet 412 in double 30-06...  Not priced all that bad, and nothing shoots better....at any price.  You can even still find them NIB "if" you look hard enough, but they will cost you more too...

I have one of those Valmet 30-06 DR's.  I really like it.  It is setup with 2 different bullets in the top and bottom with the point of impact is 0 for the top barrel and 1.75 inches high at 100 yards.

The Rizzini is regulated for factory 180s. In general it likes any bullet at 2700 fps.
I have tried bullets from 165 to 220 grains.
Keep the velocity near as I can to 2700 and the gun is happy. That was true of the 220s, even though the velocity was substantially down.
best load = 180s over 56 grains of AA4350.
