22 mag cylinder

I found a 22 mag cylinder and don't remember what it fit. :-[ I have owned both a Ruger and an H&R 22 so it could be either one.Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference?I don't have either one now. :'(

Most of the Ruger Mag cylinders are unfluted. A very few for the three screws are fluted and have recessed heads for the cartridges. The Mag cylinders are supposed to be fitted by a gunsmith. They sell at gun shows for 20-50 for the unfluted ones or 40-75 for the fluted ones. I don't know about the H&R.

This should make it easy to tell them apart.   The difference in cylinder lock position gives them away.   HTH

The H&R cylinder will also be stamped as such,  22 W. M. R. F. Only
I've been known to have a couple of H&R convertibles around here someplace!   8)

i have 2 magmun cylenders....stainless
[actually 3  but one is blue]

one came with the new gun
the other went to the gun that got stole
they  got  mixed  up.....what do  i do?......besides  i just don't shoot the magnums

Usually Ruger will mark the last two or three digits of the serial number on the back of the extra cylinder.  You should be able to match them up that way.  44 Man

The model RSSM, Ruger Single-Six Magnum, was produced in the '59-'62 era. Approximately 42,000 were shipped with fluted .22 mag. cylinders.


The Single-Six Convertibles were introduced in mid '60. Tens of thousands of these guns were produced.


So, perhaps "most" are unfluted but there are a lot out there that aren't.
