My Christmas present this year from Wifie was a new Savage Model 12 with accutrigger in 300 WSM.  I took it out today with some 180 gr Hornady SST's.  I had a good 15 mph crosswind but brought sandbags and got a nice rest.  Shooting at 150 yards, I was getting honest 3/4 inch groups.  The accutrigger is a work of art.  Man I love this rifle.  This is my first Savage bolt gun and for the money I can't see buying a better shooting rifle anywhere near the price.

I agree with ya.......I like mine and the trigger is the best I've used. Accurate guns with excellant features.

Recoil...

What was the recoil comparable to and what is your purpose for this gun?
Just curious as I am looking for a new magnum and can not make up my mind yet.

Thanks!

My intended use is for mostly Elk hunting.  It is a heavy rifle at about 9 1/2 pounds which is just fine with me.  I frequently carry a muzzleloader at about the same weight.  No doubt  300's have plenty of kick but the heavy weight of the 12 reduces the recoil velocity to a very manageable level.  I would say more than my Ruger M77 in 25-06 with heavy loads.   But less than my lightweight Savage model 99 in .308.  In fact my .308  kicks much worse.   I put 35 rounds through the 300 before it started getting to me.

I am thinking about a 16FSS in 300 WSM and was wondering if you have the means to measure your chamber for OAL with a Stoney Point with the 180 SST so I can compare it to the reloading specs I like to work off of. I like to know the Savage chamber spec so I can make a decision to buy it or not. Send me an email if you like if you want more info on what I am asking.
Thanks for you rhelp.
