Anyone use h335 in a 357 Herrett??? Any load data???
« on: July 19, 2011, 08:13:49 PM »
I use h335 in my 30 Herrett and shoots great. I just got a 357 Herrett 10 inch barrel and plan on using 158 grain XTP's but can't find any data using h335 for the 357 Herrett. Anyone have any?

Thanks

I don't recall ever seeing any data for H335 for the 357 herrett...I know probably the best is either 2400 or 4227.

I have only tried H322 and Ramshot X-terminator under a 200 grain Remington round nose bullet for deer hunting.  Not sure if you would bet a full powder burn with a 10" barrel using those two powders.

I opted for a custom throat job and longer barrel to absorb some of the recoil and hand shock.

I have been using 37grains of 322 and a 200 grain Hornady for more than 25 years. First in a 10 inch but now a 14 inch barrel. I got this load from the old Handgun Hunters International back in the early 1980s.
It's real accurat in the 14 inch barrel.

Long time Herrett(both)shooter here.  Either one are great choices when you're talking 10" barrels.  My first thought is H335 is a little slow for the 357Herrett, but, I would have said the same thing about the 30 and you're already using it with success....sooo...
I had the "Complete Reloading Manual for the Contender" at hand so I looked up 357Herrett....no data for H335 with any bullet weight.  The closest thing to it was a small amount of data for H322 with the heaviest of bullets.  My favorite powder for the big 357 has always been IMR4227 with H4227 a close 2nd, especially on the light weight bullet end and I would consider a 158gr light weight in the Herrett.  I have nearly always shot light jacketed bullets in the 357 Herrett and heavy cast bulletts in the 357Max ??? ....Yup!! :o 8)
My alltime favorite load is the old obsolite 150CLSP REM over a little less than max charge of IMR4227.  Lots of bambies haven't cared much for it over the years ;) .

Yea I have the complete Contender load book as well and can't find any data that I need. I guess I will try some 4227 and 2400 and see what comes of it. I wish the wouldn't have discontinued the 150 corelock...Thanks guys

4227 may do well for you, but if not I'm loading IMR 4198 under a 180 Hornady SS/PB.  Once I got my brass ironed out just about all the powder weights I tried shot well.  4227 works well in several other calibers for me but I never got around to trying it in the 357 Herrett.
