Question on Slug gun?

I am looking to buy my first slug gun and decided on an H&R, heard alot of good things about them. I was wondering if the frames and barrels are all the same with different style stocks or what, seems to be a difference in price. Also is there a big difference between the 20 and 12? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

If you want to shoot sabot loads, get the rifled bore model and mount a RedDot or low powered scope, if the less expensive, basic Foster type slug is OK for you the smoothbore in cylinder bore and open sights can be pretty good; I have no problem going 'minute of deer' at 50yds. and open sights with my old H&R 'Buck' barrel. Some do really well with a birdgun smoothie too.
I have a 12ga., wish it was a 20. With factory 2 3/4 X 1oz. Foster slug loads in an under 6# package it has about 40 ft.lb. of recoil. That is a bit.......
If I get a good buy on a 20ga. USH I will probably get it. I may be able to get as good groups at 50yd. and Fosters as I do with the smoothbore and still be able to go broke shooting the fancy loads made for rifled slug-guns; wont know until I try it. The USH does weigh more, that will help tame the recoil but can wear you out if you walk a lot.

My USH and some others have had several FTF's. I had to lap the barrel and do a trigger job. Now it's very accurate but I don't trust it for hunting. Just to let you know.

If you have FTF my bet is that the Transfer Bar is falling out from firing pin contact too soon. It isnt a hard fix, but it can take a while to get confident in the gun again. Dont go after dangerous game until you are  ;) , eatin' critters are Ok  ;D .

I have both a Tracker II 20ga and a 20ga USH both will clover leaf at 75 yards. The best advice I ever got regarding rifled slug guns, was to buy a bunch of diffrent sabots and shoot for group before you ever start sighting it in. find what it likes to shoot first it can save a headache when trying to sight in. MY Trackker II likes Lihgtfields and the USH likes buckhammers.
