Brenneke Gold Slugs in a chopped Handi?
« on: July 15, 2011, 10:08:35 AM »
I know the gold slugs are hard cast so a choked barrel is a big problem. I've cut about 7 inches off the end of the barrel, did I remove all of the bore taper?  Will the bore be cylindrical enough to accommodate these slugs now or is it tapered along the entire length?

No particular reason, I just like shootin' slugs.

Yep.  Most likely you got'er done.  Usually the last 3 inches of the barrel is where the constriction is located.  Figure the screw in chokes.  They are only about 3 inches long unless you got the extented tubes.
My shorty is a 20 gauge.  It shoots great, but I do want to re-install the front bead.

I'm thinking you're probably right. I wasn't sure if there was any kind of taper after the chamber to begin to align the shot column before it ever makes it to the choke... a feature not needed in a rifled barrel.  Maybe I still shout bring a giant boulder to hide behind and a long piece of string just in case.  ;D :o

Any idea what size tap for that front bead? I'd like to reinstall mine as well. I have a tru-glo bead on it now but the factory bead would be nice to hold the tru-glo in place.

Actually, a rifle barrel's chamber has a 'throat' to ease the bullet into the rifling.  Same principle.

Thanks, good point.

Turns out all I could find was the black magic slugs anyway.
