Maybe I'm missing something  ... I can see converting from a 12ga to a 20ga, maybe even a 12ga to a .410ga, but why would one shoot a 22lr down the barrel of a .410 or a 38 Spec down the barrel of a .480 Ruger? Bore diameters aren't even close so accuracy would not be existent, right?

I have several sets of adapters.  I have 20ga, 28ga, and 410ga full length tubes for my 12ga Skeet gun.  I also have an adapter to shoot .38 spl in my .350 Rem Mag.  All the adapters I have seen have been to shoot the same size bullets from a case that is much smaller than the gun is chambered for.  Like .30 carbine in .308.

Now I have an insert to shoot .410 shells through my 20ga shotgun.  This is just a small insert that only fits into the chamber.  Accuracy is bad, and it sometimes takes a long distance for the wad to leave the shot.  There is no tight barrel for the wad to slide down and heat up the outside of the wad with fraction, causing it to peel  back on exiting the barrel.  The only reason I keep it is that it is an oddity to show people.  An example of things that don't work well.

The adapters in that link are the type I was refering to that don't shoot good.  A guy might want one to let his grandkids shoot one of his guns when they are too small to shoot a full load cartridge.

Some of the shorter adapters for CF rifles are rifled from the end of chamber to the end of the adapter, so the bullet is in theory stabilized.  I think that the chamber adapters that allow you to shoot a smaller cartridge, of the same caliber, have a better chance of achieving useful accuracy.  The folks that say you should just use Trail Boss for a lower velocity load are starting to make more sense to me as I just spent $15 for 20 rounds of 32 H&R Mag to launch down my 30-06.

Mechanic I thought the same thing about my dbl 16ga. BB get yourself a set of dies for them .32 cases and that $15 will be mere pennies. Kurt

If those .32 cases are easy to pump out of the adapter just deprime, reprime charge and finger seat a bullet in the neck that fits snug. Example, my 32-20 works this way with .313-.314 dia lead bullets. A round ball thumbed in flush and a smear of softish lube over the top (like loading a C&B revolver chamber) should be dandy too. As long as the cases are easily removed resizing isnt necessary; Ive reloading some of these at least 10 times so far and still going well.

I couldn't find any 32 H&R Mag brass locally so I bought a box of factory ammo.   I HATE buying factory ammo.  Also bought a box of .310" swaged round balls.  I have a seat die and shell plate that work with the 32 H&R so I have loaded some round balls over trail boss.  Thinking of trying some .309 cast 110 grain bullets also.  Also have a bottle of Alox to lube the projectiles.  Good to go I hope.
