Therma Cell
« on: July 11, 2011, 01:50:32 PM »
This weekend at a rondy  mosquitoes were VERY bad!  I started up a Thermalcell  that i bought on alot of good reports of working.  Well to make a long story short...NADA, skeeters just munched me up.  No wind, and after 20 min i was getting weak from blood loss....LOL

Old Golds worked fairly well--but I would have needed to smoke non-stop, to keep those blood suckers off of me.

This is the first negative I've heard on the thremo cell. I actually had one for over a year got for a door prize at a banquet. Never used it till after everyone yacked them up at NTA. Still haven't used it enought to give a thumbs up or down.
I did recently find out that Absorbine Jr works to keep them blasted knats out of my face. I can feel the menthol burn a bit on my forhead and on the back of my neck after I put it on. But the slight burn is worth it to keep the knats out from behind my glasses. Can't say it will work for everyone but a lot of the guys I work with are using it now.

My experience has has been quite the opposite. Was it getting hot? Was the pad on top and smoking just a trace? Did you by chance get one of the deer scent pads? I only ask because of the amazing results I have had. I even used an opened pad a year old and it worked fine. Might get in touch with the company and see if they have any ideas.  Perhaps QC let out some duds?

Empty Quiver, the Thermoc was hot and you could see a slight trace of smoke rising from pad.   Dont know what the deer pad is supposed to smell like but to me it was like a insect spray.   I had it on for 45 min and then turned it off as skeeters werent being detered.  I will call company as  all ive heard have been good reports also .  Even fm fellows in Alaska.  Also deer hunters in bowhunting blinds and they said didnt bother deer.   Will let everyone know what i find out.

I have seen pads that have a deer scent of some sort be it cover or food or whatever I don't know. They may be a combo of deer attractant and bug killer I haven't checked close enough to know. I was sorta thinking out loud if you know what I mean

I use Therma cells in early season duck hunting and they always worked great.
