Heavy Barrel Forends
« on: January 02, 2004, 06:27:20 AM »
I am thinking of purchasing a SS 26" heavy barrel in .22-250 from Cabela's.  Do I need a different forearm for the heavy barrel or can I use the regular sized one?  Also, is Cabela's the best place for me to purchase barrels?  I'm new to this game and could use the assistance.  Thanks!

You will require a forend for a 26" heavy, as it has a different taper than the 24" standard taper. If cabela's is selling barrels, they should have forends. but it might hurt to shop around abit, as I've seen prices vary alot.
( I stand corrected, I was thinking syn. but thought they would be different. Sorry)

The standard forearm will fit the 24" or 26" barrels.  They do also make a heavy forend for the 26" barrels.  www.tcarms.com will give you all the details.  Do not know how much Cabela's is but you might want to try Eds Contenders, he usually has the best prices and gives great service.  www.edstc.com

If it is the composite forearm it will fit both 24 tappered and 26 heavy.
Both mine do............I believe the wood is different for both.

Yep, it seems that the composite will fit both but with the wood you need a different forearm to accommodate the heavier barrel.  Thanks fellas!

I have the Encore with the SS 209x50 muzzle loader barrel and would also like to get the .22-250 in 26" SS heavy barrel.  I have the camo composite stock.  Does anyone know if my forend will fit the heavy barrels or do I have to order another one.  I haven't been able to get clear info on whether or not anyone makes a camo forend (real tree hardwoods green) for the heavy barrels.

It is my understanding that the camo synthetic forend will work for all the barrels.  That is what I will be getting, so I'll keep you posted.  Should have it all set up by the end of the month.
