Ordering a stock set from H&R
« on: July 06, 2011, 12:12:38 PM »
I called H&R about ordering an American black walnut stock set from a 20 ga topper jr classic. They were very nice and informative by the way, and were willing to sell me the parts. But the price was a little steep $59 for the butt stock and $36 for the forearm, that comes to $95 plus shipping. I can buy a whole new topper jr classic for $175 including shipping, I guess I could always use another topper...right? And the 20 ga tamer is only $157 shipped, I think I'm going for both. Am I thinking wrong here? Or are these guns too inexpensive and addicting to pass up? Can anyone help talk some sense into me before I place the order?....... ::)

The Topper Classic comes with a black painted hardwood stock, they quoted you the price for the Topper Deluxe Classic (TDC) stock which is what you asked for since you mentioned walnut, big difference, the TDC stock is checkered. See H&R RETAIL PARTS PRICE LIST (stocks too!!) in the FAQs.

If you think the quoted prices for walnut are too high just check on some aftermarket stocks.

Tim, I think the topper junior classic comes with the youth sized walnut stocks sb1-288 and sb1-488.

You're right Markus, my error, but still,  the checkered walnut is the reason why they're so much more expensive than the standard hardwood stock.  ;)

That's what I mean, for an additional $80 I can get another topper jr classic with the walnut stock. So I might as well order the complete firearm. The walnut stock will look and go fantastic on my talo 357 and give me a better fit also. And I can always use the 20gauge barrel and receiver and make something slick for HD and range fun.
