Jedman,
Do you think that attaching a gas check would help this bullet any for higher hunting velocities? IIRC, Tim had a way of attaching them when the bullet wasn't designed for them. I'll look in the FAQs to be sure.

Thanks, Dinny

Several years ago I ordered a custom shop barrel from T-C, a 20" in 38SPL. I used it on a G2 carbine, lightweight and accurate! For some unknown reason I felt the need to ream it to 357 Mag. I have not shot it since the ream job, just hope that I didn't hurt the accuracy. If I
were to do it again, I would order 357 Mag and download as necessary.

"Trashcan' that it is, I could see chucking up in a collet in the lathe and just turning in a lube groove or two. Yeah, it is a little futzy, but we do a lot of futzy things in this hobby.
BTW, a friend used to cast a 180ish gr. RN, probably something for a 35 Rem., and in our local 'smallbore' BPCR shoots the guys with .38Spl and .357M chambered rifles did right well on the steel and scored well on paper. IIRC, that bullet loaded into .38Spl cases fit nicely in a .357M chamber.
Ed Harris, when at Ruger, developed a rethroating reamer for the 'problematic' .357M No.1s (they didnt group well with standard tooling) and it was magic. He has written a fair bit about it and I know Ive seen it in The Fouling Shot, the official publication of The Cast Bullet Assoc. I suspect that the improved throating of the Forum .357Maxi reamer is largely responsible for the generally improved accurracy.

IMHO, throating is also an acquired skill learned (properly) by a relatively small number of gunsmiths. Floating reamers, like the GBO rental, are much better than the forcing cone throats cut by some manufacturers, but a throat cut on a machine that is perfectly concentric to the bore is better yet. Especially one that is cut specifically to support one intended bullet. My gunsmith recut the throat of my mother's .357 Maximum for the 180gr SS-PB. That doesn't mean that other bullets can't be shot with good results, just that it may support the SS-PB best. I truly believe that barrel is capable of sub-sub MOA accuracy with precision reloads and a better shooter than I. ;) In the meantime, I'm gonna keep practicing both my reloading and shooting... ;D

240?  The standard .358 wadcutters have been 148 grain.

Almost 240 grains, I weighed a couple at 237 to 238.

Ah, but remember, velocity isn't the only criteria for a gas check either... Deterioration of the base of the bullet can have a large effect on a bullets accuracy. As a matter of fact, you can shoot a pretty mangled bullet quite accurately as long as you have a good base and better than caliber of length...
