Trigger Job a success!
« on: December 31, 2003, 02:37:33 AM »
First off let me say I am not a gunsmith by a longshot.  I put a Bellm spring in my Encore last night and it is a lot easier than the directions make it seem.  I went from a 4.5 lb pull to a 2.0 lb pull.  It is a little lighter than I wanted (2.5-3) but it is not scary to me.  It has a little take up which I think helps it feel heavier than 2 lbs.  With the assembly pin he included with the spring it was a snap to re-install the sear assembly and interlock in the frame with no worries of the spring flying off to parts unknown.  I also put a larger hinge pin in it as well.  We will see if any of this shrinks my already good groups.  I can't stand not to tinker with things.

I have heard of only one guy that reported better performance from an oversize hinge pin , DO not ream the hinge pin hole in frames or barrels for the oversize pins.

I am not going to ream a thing!  I figured while I was paying shipping charges for an $8 spring I might as well try the next larger pin just for kicks.  I haven't had a chance to shoot much since the trigger job but the gun shot in the neighborhood of 1-1.5 MOA stock from T/C.

I ordered the #3 spring.  Went from 4.5lbs to 2lbs even.  Big difference.  Can't wait to wring it out a little from the bench though.

Hey, Daddy Paul
I'm delighted to hear that doing the trigger didn't make you crazy.  I have the springs and pin, but have hesitated to put them in for fear that I didn't have a big enough plastic bag to work in and catch flying springs.  I have done my Contenders for years, but the instructions for the Encore had me on hold.

I'll give it a try.

Harold, I would not lie to you.  It is a piece of cake if you use the assembly pin.  I printed the instructions off his website and got everything laid out, fifteen minutes later I was smelling gunpowder!  I was nervous when I got ready to bust her open, but I promise it is easy to install the spring.  I think I could do it again in five minutes.

Kish

Thanks for the confidence builder.  I haven't had time to get to it just yet.  I had to go to town again today.  I sent my Encore 308 barrel off to EABCO to have the JP Howitzer/Sherman Tank Muzzle brake installed, though.
