How are guns and ammo selling?

I've been out of touch with the gun market for a while. I remember when Clinton got elected a lot of people bought guns and ammo in anticipation of anti-gun legislation. Is anything remarkable happening to gun and ammo sales with Obama as president?

Here in Michigan guns and ammo sales are always fairly steady, cpl classes are constantly full and overbooked, seems to be a lot of people carrying in Michigan now and that's growing constantly. So that in itself drives a certain amount of constant handgun sales.  I think most people are buying ammo over the internet, I know I do most of my shopping there.  There was a surge in sales a couple years ago...forget why.
Used gun sales are pretty big in this area, probably driven by the fact people lost/losing their jobs and need some fast cash, sometimes the local paper is full of those.  Might depend where you live too, not sure how other states are doing.

I mostly pay attention to "classic" American guns (Pre-64 70s, M-12s, nicer 700s, Older browning autos, etc).  I would say that part of the market has continued to soften.  I suspect it has more to do with an ageing demographic than anything else.  I bought a beautiful and somewhat rare 26" IC model 12 a while back for about half what it would have brought 10-12 years ago.

8lbs of Varget hit $400 on Gunbroker about 2/09.  Had been about $130. Back to around $140 now. My local gun pimp just retired 2 days around. Think they would have stuck it out if they thought they would profit. Gun sales are in the dumper now.

Fixed choke 2 3/4" shotguns, you can't give them away.

Mil-Surp prices have been moving up steadily.

  I believe it was Grice`s in Clearfield, Pa. that had a Poster with the ObamaMeister`s picture on it. It read " salesman of the Year."

RON. Good one. I've been in 2 walmarts recently and found a lot of bare shelves for ammo. With them it might not be a shortage at all. It's gotten a lot worse since the corporate pukes started insisting on doing all the ordering. I wanted a new 22 too, OUT of stock. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

The two gun shops I frequent have people in them and guns are moving.
Was shocked to see a 90's Sig 226 $100 less than a new model.  For $100 bucks I would get the new one and it looks like others are too.  I don't see M1As on the shelf long and non of the shops can keep a National Match model on the shelf long.
The one shop has me picking something up on a semi regular bases, one about every three months as cool stuff wonders in the door.

Ammo is obtainable if you like russian stuff.
In stores, Guns have reached the "Unbuyable" point.
They have now mostly been priced out of range
of most people. Person to person sales are
higher than I have ever seen though. There are a lot of
guns moving around. Reloading supplies are "high dollar"
commodities!
