"fly" fishing with a spincast...
« on: June 01, 2011, 04:12:49 AM »
An old neighbor once told me he was too slow to fly fish so he used some special float on a spincast that presented the fly in a similar fashion. He said he would cast it out once, let it drift downstream then reel in and repeat.

Does anyone know what kind of float is used for this? I know it wasnt a regular bobber, it had some special name and was specifically made for this purpose.

I've done the same, it's a clear plastic float that is oblong so it
sits on its side...A regular float will do about the same...

Bass Pro sells them as a spin bubble...

I used to fish mountain streams that way 30-40 years ago regularly. I just used regular floats same as I'd have used with live bait. I caught a lot of fish using rubber spiders and popping bugs.

When you guys use these... do you ever have issues with the line dragging the fly under water?

Not with what I used but I was using ultra light spinning gear and 4 pound or at most 6 pound test line.
