Personal opinion: Browning!
60 degree bolt throw, in-house clip in magazine, nice feel, palm swell, excellent company to deal with. only complaint.....availability!

But then again.....what do I know! Just my humble opinion

You needed to have a number of others to get a good average.

1.]  Winchester
2.]  Savage
3.]  Howa

These are just a few that should be on the list.  Lawdog

the tikka is the finest rifle for the money out there.  they shoot right out of the box and the price is better than most.  i like them 10x better than a browning.  brownig couldnt decide to go with a detach mag or a floor plate.

not much for savage or remington.  winchesters or ruger are next.
Let the heavens decide.

I've found defferent makes shoot better then others in defferent calibars. You may have a 30/06 in Remington shoot awesome but you may find a 308 made by Winchester that will shoot better then than any Remington in that calibar.. So I don't feel you can pick one Mfg over any other with out breaking it down more..

Hell, I could just play with my VZ 8mm Mauser and work the bolt for sheer fun.  Unbeleivable what can be gotten for 69 bucks.  Also..1917 Remington/Enfield is a real honey even though some people say it is ugly.
....make it count

I kinda think that surveys like this are more of a "I own this namebrand so I will vote for myself"  I would be curious how something like this would turn out in Europe etc..... And yes, I voted for Tikka cuz I like mine.  Is it better than your Remington etc..., I could'nt tell ya. But, surveys are fun!

I have rem 700 308 heavy barrel, win mod 70 .243, and 2 browning a-bolts 30-06 and recently a 7 mag that the price was right on and a RRA .223 bull. I have some diversity, but I always tend to gravitate back to my remington .308.

Sako 75 Finnlight.  I have a 243, .375"-.625" groups at 100 yds not uncommon. Excellent fit, finish, features, saftey system, light weight, corrosion resistance, the PERFECT rifle for my & the New England wet/snowy wood hunting I do.  Just my .02 worth...

WHAT SHOOTS BEST
« Reply #17 on: January 01, 2004, 04:21:18 PM »
I own 12 different rifles.  I've found out I can adapt to (get used to) any of them.  Their all pretty good, but if I could only own one it would be a Remington 700.  Why?, they shoot best.

Man, for being such a poor quality, sub standard, inferior rifle, with the worst customer service in the business Remington sure is getting quite a few votes     It got mine as well

Having said that, I have not owned a tikka yet so I couldnt consider that rifle. Since nearly everyone here seems to think the finns have forgotten more about rifle building than any of the US manufactures ever knew     I shall have to purchase one and put it through the paces...

BTW Why isnt Weatherby listed?

My top three choices are Sako, Tikka, and Remington, and probably in that order.  The thing is that the Remington is not even close to Sako and Tikka in the Quality department, but they are still great rifles nonetheless.  Plus, with a little customizing, the Remingtons can be better than Sakos and Tikkas.    But for out of the box quality - Sako and Tikka are tops.

CZ-550!
« Reply #20 on: January 02, 2004, 09:49:17 AM »
CZ-550 for foreign rifles.  The Tikka is nice, but I do not like the "clip magazine".  I also like Winchesters, Brownings, Rugers, and Remingtons.  These all need gunsmithing work (except the Browning with its floated & bedded actions, and adjustable trigger).

Remmingtons aren't expensive, everybody carries them for sale.  Percentage wise, they have few problems and for the most part, they are hunter accurate if not better.  They come in every action and have rifles for both hands.  Not everyone can afford the top of the line, but most everyone can afford the average.  Remington makes them both.

HUNTER ACCURATE ?????????
« Reply #23 on: January 09, 2004, 06:04:09 AM »
What does hunter accurate mean?  My 270 Rem ADL will touch bullet holes at 100 yards with many different loads.  How can Sako quality be any better than Remington?  Because it all steel, because it's pretty, most probably because it cost more lending to "smug" appeal.  Hey guy's, at our hunting most have well worn Remingtons that have kept trucking for years without repair.  My B/L's Model 30 hasen't broke since 1927.  I tried a Tikka last year and have already sold it.  Why, because it had no soul, all that plastic.  I'll admit it was very accurate, but no more than a Rem or Savage.  Most of you folks would be better off buying an American made Remington and spending the excess for a high dollar scope.

Razmuz,

My definition of Hunter accurate means that at 300 yards, you will have no fear pulling the trigger if you know the drop of your caliber and load.  And I have never seen a Remington, not even the semi-autos, worry a seasoned hunter at that range.

I do wish Remington had a "classic" Mountain Rifle they could chamber for the 300 Savage.

Some people drive Fords, some drive Chevy, some drive Dodge and some drive Yugos.  Most probably like what they drive and are most familiar with, not necessary what is the best.

I only know 1 thing and that I am from western Pa. and the last hunting rifle I bought would drive tacks in the warm months, and could'nt hit the side of a barn, when it got cold!  below 32 degres was a nightmare for me! it had Ruger stamped into the barrel, but am not sure what I bought! The next 1, buy will be in janurary and be tested for the cold temps B4 I buy it!
