Well, I now own a gaggle of Handis. Even found a nice scoped Survivor 308 to add to my Handi 270, 243 (barrel), and 12 gauge Topper. Trying to close a deal on a 30-30 now.
I was searching for calibers to rechamber to 30-06 and came across this site with an amazing rechamber guide...

It says a 30-30 can be rechamered to 30-06. I read everything I could find on here about the 30-30/30-06 rechamber. Looks like I can do it.
Do you have a 30-06 reamer for rent Tim? Or, should I get one from 4D?
New topic: Shooting 38 specials in a rechambered 357 Max barrel? Do you think there  is too much space to the rifling or not? What would accuracy be like?

The reamer sticky has all the reamers available, but be aware most any gunsmith would have the 30-06, and 30-30 to 30-06 isn't a rechamber I'd do by hand if that's what you had in mind, it should be done on a lathe.  ;) Also be aware that pre-'87 30-30 barrels had soldered(vs welded for modern) underlugs which aren't suitable for high pressure chamberings...just in case.

OTOH, 30-06 barrels are very common, unless the 30-30 barrel is free, it doesn't make sense to spend about the same money to have it rechambered as a used 30-06 barrel would cost, plus the cost of the ejector modification. If it was a longer barrel, or a bull barrel, maybe, but modern 30-30 barrels are the same as the 30-06, 22" standard contour.

There are hundreds of discussions on shooting 38 specials and 357mag in the Maxi.

Youve got the 308; almost an '06, and the 30-30 is one of the most popular and accurate barrels out there. Wouldnt surprise me if you gotta have an '06 somebody will swap you.

IF you just have to have a 30 caliber with more power then I would look at reaming the 308 to something larger, 30-06AI maybe.   The 30-30 is a highly prized barrel in HandiLand and you would reduce the value of the barrel by a bunch if you rechamber it to '06.   BTW, unless you plan on shooting 180 grain & larger .308 bullets the 308 Win is pretty much equivalent to the '06.  (my apologies to Sourdough)

Most folks report great results with 38 plinking loads in a 357 Mag or Maxi.  I am the odd man out on this as my Maxi hates 38 Specials. :P

Gcranky... Gotta have a 30-06, gotta gotta gotta! Hmmm, a swap sounds good. I only have a few boxes of 30-30. I would toss in a box of 30-30s with the 30-06 swap too. I'm going to shoot a box of 30-30s before I trade it. After they all get here and I roll nekkid on them for an hour and mark them with my scent, then shoot them, I will put up a want to trade ad.
The 308 doesnt do me a whole lotta good either. I thought I had several 100 308s, but I dont after all. Under the boxes of 308 were more 30-06s and others.
That's okay though, cause I really only bought the Survivor 308 for the cool stock and maybe the SB2 receiver.
Tim... Do you like the 2006+ (inspection hole) SB2 receiver that came on the 270 better, or the Survivor 308 SB2 receiver better?  Or, are they both the same?
I'm trying to find a used 30-06 barrel, but I'm having no luck. Can only find the whole gun.
Like a dummy, I keep buying the whole gun for just the barrel.
I dont want to send anything to H&R.
I'm curious to know how Mcace's 308 in a 30-06 chamber adapter is going to work since the 308 is wider than a 30-06? It should be here any day with the 30C in 30-06 adapter.

My buddy is an FFL and owns a machine shop, so rechambering and ejector mods are free. Not exactly free... I give him $1 an hour as an insult and buy him lunch  lol. I spent all day yesterday on his lathe fine tuning the 20 gauge chamber adapter. It shot perfect in the Dickson 10 gauge, and even ejected with the empty shell. The 16 gauge chamber adapter wouldn't lock up right, so I'm tossing it. But since I cant mount the 10 gauge barrel on the SB2 frame, I have to turn the 20  down more to fit the Topper 12 barrel.
I must have read fifty chamber freebore gap type posts. Half say dont do it... accuracy and half say do it... Weatherbys have lots of chamber gap. I will keep reading.

There is a lot of difference between 38s and 357 Max... at least .490" That's alot!!!

Biker... I read about  the 308/30-06AI rechamber idea, but I cant go with 30-06AI. I don have any 30-06AIs. I only have 30-06 Sprg rounds. My budget for "buying" ammo is $0.

You're good to go with any SB2 frame made 2000 or later, the view port on the 2006 only helps in fitting barrels, and unless you can remove it which requires a special tool, not much good for that.
