These scats or fecal matter are from mephitis  aka skunk.  They are digging june beetle grubs and other larvae this time of year.

 That was my guess Lee, but I have seen very few skunk turds and was waiting for a--turd Master to give their views. I was going to suggest that mike give them a chew and see what they tasted like, you have saved him the trouble.

If you run up fast or sneak up slow and grab that skunk by the tail and quickly get his back feet off the ground. You can avoid the obvious loud odor and squeeling, the squeeling would be you. Then you can then box that critter and send it via flat rate postal to either RdFx or Bog eliminating your problem.
This is a proven method..
