rem. 760 O'ring size ??

Dads 760 6mm rifle rattles ,  can I put a hardware store o'ring in, or will they not last, anyone done this ?? what size ??      pump guns are cool !!!        thanks   FBC

I put a newone in my 7600 that I got from the hardware store so I hope it last ! I think the rubber in it will hold up just as well as the factory version and I wasn,t about to pay over $15.00 for one (after shipping from the goofballs at Remington)
I took the old one off and took it up to the hardware store and found the right size. I dont remember what size it was but it matched perfectly in both diameter and thickness. Matter of fact I bought 2 of them for .50 cents

Matching up the o ring is the best way to find one.  After you replace it don't forget to spray some dri lube into the holes on the pump shaft and turn it upside down for an hour.  Then work the action and you will find it really slick and quiet.

 The wire dia. is .060" and the ring Dia. is .500"  1/2" inside . I use Silicon lube on them as it doesn't deteriorate the O ring  .

                          The O ring goes on the action tube about an eighth of an inch from the end ! the action tube rides inside the action Bar ! The rifle must be disassembled to install it , it's a good time to give it a thorough cleaning !
